Fall
GARDEN PATCH
Gin, peppercorn, cinnamon, lemon, egg white. Why we love it: It’s vegetal and delicious while managing to also be cozy. A delicious drink that almost feels healthful. This drink could easily go on the spring or summer cocktail list but the peppercorn and cinnamon add a warmth that we also find enjoyable on an early fall day. We first tried this at, yet again, Kansas City’s Westport Cafe (they called it the Copper Rabbit) and had to later recreate a similar version at home. Notes/profile: botanical, bright, warm, velvety.
BOULEVARDIER
Bourbon or rye, Campari, sweet red vermouth. Why we love it: Can you smell the leather-bound books and oil pastel paints? This classic cocktail was created in 1920s Paris – in the literary salon era of Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Pablo Picasso among others – by an American-born writer and named after a Paris publication. It’s a twist on a Negroni, using whiskey rather than gin. It’s bold and warming and will appeal to those who love a good Manhattan or an Old Fashioned. Notes/profile: bold, smooth, complex.
Winter
I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS
Vodka, Licor 43, Luxardo Maraschino, cinnamon, heavy cream, rum-soaked cherry garnish. Why we love it: We built this cocktail inspired by a drink we enjoyed out and about once upon a time that had similar ingredients. Feels decadent, luxurious, creamy, cozy and festive. Notes/profile: velvety, spiced, sweet, nostalgic.
NAVIDAD MARGARITA
Mezcal, hot honey, cardamon, fresh lime juice, dried orange garnish. Why we love it: It’s a perfect balance of warm spices and smoky mezcal and bright, refreshing flavors. Notes/profile: bold, citrusy, crisp.
